Frequent and/or Painful Urination
Urinary urgency and frequency can be quite troublesome. These symptoms can occur suddenly and are usually associated with painful urination. The most common cause of these problems is usually a simple bladder infection (i.e. cystitis).
Several immediate steps may be helpful:
1. Stay hydrated by drinking large amounts of water which
will decrease the bacterial colony count and help your symptoms.
2. Take an over-the-counter drug called azo standard that
will alleviate your painful urination (i.e. dysuria).
If your symptoms start during the weekend, you can have a urine culture obtained on Monday. If your symptoms start after office hours during the week, you can have a urine culture obtained the next day. A urine culture is normally helpful to identify the organism so the appropriate antibiotic can be given. However, if you cannot wait, please call our office today.
